A Tribute To Expatriates!

Since last Friday when “Pathemari was released “I was so much excited to arrange a ticket for either Friday or this Saturday itself. Though am not an Expatriate I could easily digest the life of a “Pravasi”

The release in Bangalore of this movie is very limited and only in high class cinemas. I have arranged two tickets in Gobalan Cinemas at Signature Mall located on the OLD Madras Road. There were enough reviews available on the net to have great expectation before watching this movie. Started journey to Cinemas 2 hours early from since it was about 23 Km from home through moderate traffic.

I was not so happy with the theatre ambiance, it was a small theater with the way to in at screen sides. The total capacity might be around 75 and the cost of online ticket per person was 300 INR. I was a bit tired of driving one and half continuous drive, had to have few cool drinks and snacks before the movie start.

Love the way Salim Ahamad narrated the story in four spans of life of Narayan Kutty, the initial stage really resembles the arrival of my father and his brothers when I was in childhood. The touching part of that span was meeting a struggling guy from Mumbai and inspiring him.  And also the feeling of spouse while arriving and leaving was again another heart touching feeling since I have felt this from my mother many times.  Off the note we may not be able to see any more such feeling in the modern digital India. I have been to gulf for short periods of two months and I have experienced it a bit since it happened prior to pure digital and smart life.

The second span shows full of responsibilities of an Expatriate especially from the Malabar area have to bear. The kind of pressure came from siblings and other family members was more than enough to take away his romantic feelings. Of course the narrator didn’t forget to include the show-offs of a typical expatriate when they come for short holidays.

The short living with of his kids, during his holidays was awesome and the age shows the kind of development happened to his family and the village, the kind of friendship Narayana got with maiden was beyond explanation, he was there with him for all of his issues as a shadow in his life abroad. The Dialogs between his friends, each has a very deep sense to all Expatriates. Though he was an all in all for his elder brother’s daughters marriage, the feelings he has to manage being there in the gulf, once again proves the actor caliber of living in a character. Like all Expatriates he also makes a wonderful attempt to stop his Expatriate life and try to leave a minimal life in his own state, however, he has to change his decision because of further financial pressure from family and return back to Dubai.

The last and fourth span was much promising one than any other parts of the movie, the elder aged Narayanan still doing hard work for his family until his last day. Few extreme steps and words from his elder son could have avoided, Apart from that movie is an excellent one, and Mammoty simply lived in the movie as Narayanan as a Gulf man. The most diversified fact about the movie, which is going to be the key box office success factor is the climax and Narayan Speech which last for a few minon his own life. While watching one third portion of the movie I even though it is picturing the life of Expatriates as nothing other than waste, however, at the end it gives a great meaning to the life of all Expatriates………………
